FAQ’s

Partnership publishing – what does that mean?

We occupy the space between traditional publishing and self-publishing. Put simply, the main difference between us and a traditional publishers is that as the author, you bear some of the financial risk of publishing your book. Aside from that, many of our processes are the same as you would find working with a traditional publishing house – for example, marketing that doesn’t stop on the publication date of your book! For more information on the services we provide, see Publishing – The Process.

Securing a traditional publishing contract can be a notoriously difficult and lengthy process with no guarantee of success. We recognise that every person has their own unique motivation for wanting to become a published author. Some want to be the next big best-seller; others might want to leave a legacy for their children or grandchildren; several simply want to cross ‘I published a book’ off their bucket list. We believe that there is a space in the market for what we do – we provide a professional, comprehensive service to authors who want an alternative route to market.

The publishing sector is more varied today than it has ever been, and what works for one person might not work for someone else. That doesn’t mean it’s the wrong decision, just that it’s not right for them. We are happy to answer any questions you might have; we have nothing to hide! We are confident that our high standards speak for themselves.

How much would it be?

Each book that we publish will be unique, with a distinctive set of requirements. If your book is self-illustrated, or you have sourced your own illustrator, your fee will be much lower. An example contribution cost for an author who has written a 32-40 page picture book, and is providing illustrations, would be approx. £550. This represents circa 30% of the total cost to publish and would attract an excellent royalty return of 60-70% of net.
If professional illustrations are required, there will be a separate cost for this which will vary depending on illustrator style, image complexity, number of illustrations, etc. This would be agreed between you and your chosen illustrator.
In the interests of transparency, we are happy to provide a summary of costs to you showing how we have arrived at these figures – we believe in being open and honest with our authors. We think our contribution percentage and royalty share are very fair and represent some of the best available in our sector. If we offer you a contract you are not under any obligation to accept, so you really have nothing to lose.

Do you publish all of your submissions?

We are selective about what we publish. We are not a self-publisher and we seek reward and recognition for each title we take to print. To work with you we need to believe in your manuscript as much as you do.

Okay, I’m interested in finding out more. What next?

Submit your manuscript for our consideration and if it knocks our socks off, we will be in touch. If you have any further questions, include them in your submission email and we will respond to you.
